The Uninsured and Health Care Reform
As the debate over health care reform rages on, one clear objective has been to reduce the number of uninsured Americans. With employer-based coverage declining and approximately 45 million people uninsured, public health program coverage has become central to solving the problem of the uninsured. Consilium’s principles have been closely monitoring federal proposals to reshape the U.S. health care system. The evolution of available public programs, changes to Medicaid reimbursement to states, the likely decrease of Disproportionate Share payments (DSH), and the creation of health care exchanges will fundamentally reshape how the public health eligibility programs work. We have been working with Capitol Hill staff, federal agencies, state agencies, and experts in public eligibility programs to both understand and shape this new landscape.
The expansion of coverage that health reform will deliver presents a great opportunity for your organization. There will be a significant increase in complexity and change as this new system is implemented. Consilium’s expertise in both traditional eligibility programs and with what is coming with health reform can help maximize these new revenue and coverage opportunities.
FYI
The final health reform bill passed by Congress will reduce DSH payment nationwide by $14.1 Billion.
